For about 20 years ago I was invited to a seminar about the environmet & design. There were a lot issues talked about, the global environmental impact of agriculture and livestock farming. That we convert crops to livestock in order for us to be able to eat meat. I was baffled. I had always thought that a vegetarian was only into it due to feeling sorry for the cow. A realtive of mine told me to watch ”Cowspiracy” on Netflix (or you find it at: http://www.cowspiracy.com). I saw it yesterday, and again, wow. I already new it, but watching those figure and seeing that the environmental problem of the world is not cars, electricity etc. in that extent, which media is feeding us with that picture. It’s not easy to give up the car or to change the whole car industry to an environmental path, but to stop eating meat and dairy products is easy, purely from a techical point of view. The thing is that how many of us wants to or are prepared to do so? Can you imagin the magnitude of the political and economical power and machinery behind. Is that the war of the future? The war against or for the steak and cheese on this planet. We are about 7 bilion people and we farm about 20 bilion livestock. It takes 20 times more land to grow livestock than growing crops! With other words, if we stop eating meat and dairy products we can feed the poor, may times over. Food shortage is bullshit!

Bilions are starving and we grow more crops for the livestock that for our selves! I wiill take away meat and dairy from our family menue bit by bit, without the kids noticing, he he, but seriously cut down, to start with.

The headline of todays topic is Wikipedia 2.0. Maybe not so impressive, OK, what if we merge Wikipedia with the talents of the best computer animators from Hollywood or from the gaming industry. To bring Wikipedia alive. I came up with this idea after having discussed with a friend, (who is a teacher and both of us have kids in school) how the school system is way behind the information society we live in, with the amazing technical development we have achieved the last, say 20 years, but the school system seems to be still standing still in many ways. The school system, as it has been for many many years does not fit many if the children. When I went to school i had problems learning due to the lack of inspiration. In order to learn easily, you need to be inspired and have fun. There are teachers out threre who can engage students, but that is an art in it self. Then you have the school material that needs to be engaging and up to date.  My conclution is that  it’s far more efficient if one has fun learning. You might not even realise that you are learning if you can design a tool that is smart enough,.There are tools out ther on the internet, good and bad, but very scattered. What I was looking for, was something more. The BIG Picture, a global view on things. I saw it as Earth as a starting point and then ad the four dimsions, space 3D and Time. This gives us two parameters: When and Where.  If you have Earth, just like Google Earth (like I used in my EARTH! Project) and then you simply deside When on the time line and Where on the planet. By that you have covered the history of Eath and Man + the geography. By chance, I stumbled onto a similar solution for a solar system app. Which is amazing: The Solar Walk. So, by adding the the rest of of our knowlege beyond our planet, building up as much as one can in 3D, you have covered the knowlege of astronomy. You can go on and on, adding information, tools like What, Why, etc. But the point here is that the  user will be exposed to 3D animated videos, movie clips, images, text in a spectacular way that makes the user engaged. The platform could be connected to social media as well as being like Wikipedia, supported by the users with information. If we have fun learning without realizing that we are learning, everyone has the possiblilty (if you have access to the Internet) to learn and we will at the same time take a lot of the burdon from our teachers. Check this guy out: Sugata Mitra (http://www.ted.com/speakers/sugata_mitra.html) He knows what, i know how.

I am aware that this is a gigantic task to realize but it’s doable and I would not be surprized if a company starting with a G would be the one to have the means to do it.

It’s almost like an alternative Internet…! In 3D

Here is an fun idea where my son had the initial idea. I developed it further in terms of the concept. I'm not a game developer, so if there is a game company out there who thinks it would be a good idea to develop it further, let me know (it's not a give away ;-).

Most of you are probably aware of the classic labyrint board game with the shiny metal ball you are supposed to guide to the end of the labyrint without falling into the  devestating hole. There is a modern variant on it where the labyrint or track takes place inside a transparent plastic globe and there is a colorful 3D track inside with a tiny metal ball that you are supposed to balance through different obstacles. Very addictive.

Why not make something similar in a digital world? So, I designed some balls, each with both a visual personality as well as a performance personality in terms of how it behaves: Light, heavy, soft, hard, polished or ruff surface etc. Then you can also set your own levels of performance. Instant success! Then one can chose many tracks and get to new levels, etc. You get the picture.

Good Morning! It's 09:33 am. and this is my first trembling step into the blog world as a publisher of my own blog. Even though I'm a Product Designer, I will write about many other things, like personal projects that are either about important issues or just fun projects or thoughts.

Today I will write about a project that has been in my drawer for a while now. The reason for this is that i tend to come with an idea and never get to the next step to realize it. Quite common for many of us. Either it's a time prioritization or just don't know how to take the next step. For me it's both. Anyway, this topic EARTH is not a money driven idea, even though I think generating money is one of the primary answers to improving the health of our planet. EARTH! is about trying to create a global platform and community for evironmental issues. It might sound boring to most of us and a website just for tree huggers, but if one executes it in a way that is interactive, intriguing and more than just claimed facts and figures. See it as the future engine of the the environmental era, where one brings all the worlds questions, thoughts, solutions, reports on one place, to be prossesed.

By using a 3D animated EARTH! globe (like Google Earth) in order to be able to navigate and see geographicly the status of our planet. Report environmental alerts onto the 3D globe. Invite famous celebrities as ambassadors, who are enironmentaly active, like Elon Musk, Leonardo Di Caprio, Larry Page and others in order to get more media coverage and a boost to the discussion. Create a Think Tank for ideas and issues to be prossesed. Get sponsors. Pitch your environmental idea, get support and funding or crowd-funding. Invest in environmental projects, or in a green stockmarket. Invite experts, professors and interesting personalities. Imagine the power of a community of milions of green super brains on one place. Green power. A lot of people who wants to contribute, thinks: But what can I do? and it stops there. Here it's easier to reach out to the gigantic eco system of the super community EARTH! Then we only need to get the Swedish Nobel Commity to install a new category: Nobel Prize of Environmental contribution.
